A decade ago, the World Health Organization announced the development of the Age-friendly Communities framework. 2016 marks a pivotal milestone in this global movement to create inclusive, welcoming communities for people of all ages.
So far, 287 worldwide communities are recognized as being “age-friendly” with Metchosin, proudly, one of 36 communities in B.C., with a Provincial Age-friendly Recognition Award.
The Metchosin Seniors Association (MSA) has aligned SIRC with this vision for Metchosin, and we will continue to role model “age-friendly” for many other communities, especially those in the Westshore, with an increased number of dedicated volunteers.
SIRC Support Volunteers are willing and able to provide anything from transportation for our seniors, to basic companionship, perhaps answering phone enquiries, or supporting any of our many programs or special projects offered throughout the year. Volunteer opportunities are varied and the time commitment is designed to meet your needs and schedule.
We are looking for local Support Volunteers to lend time to SIRC’s members, board or programs.
