A steering committee established jointly by the Metchosin Community Association and the Healthy Community Advisory Select Committee was launched through a twenty thousand dollar Healthy Communities grant from the Union of BC Municipalities. The grant made it possible to contract a part-time coordinator, who worked with volunteers to establish and staff the service. It was used also to cover the costs of installing a telephone line, purchasing and maintaining a computer and Internet connection and maintaining the Drop In Centre. The new coordinator continues to report to the chair of the Metchosin Seniors Association (MSA), a non-profit society, which was formed in November 2013. The MSA provides executive direction and financial management.
A four year Fee for Service Contract between the MSA and District of Metchosin was approved by Council on March 17, 2014 and renewed in 2018. This will enable the Senior’s Resource Centre to continue to provide essential services to residents.
