On Tuesday, September 19, from 1:30- 3:30pm at the Metchosin Community House, please join us for an information packed presentation and discussion, “Your Brain Matters” – our 2017 Alzheimer’s Awareness Event and Coffee Break®, sponsored by SIRC and IDA Pharmacy Latoria, for the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
This enlightening talk, followed by a community Coffee Break® is in support of the Alzheimer Society of BC, to raise funds and awareness will be presented by local IDA Latoria Pharmacist, Mohammed Zeid. He will address the nature of Alzheimer’s disease and important issues related to brain health, including a non-pharmacological treatment approach and available known drugs for those who are suffering.
It is estimated that 70,000 British Columbians are affected by dementia, and this number is growing. The Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s ultimate vision is a world without dementia – but before there’s a cure, there’s care. While the search for a cure continues, we can ignite a movement to make dementia not just someone else’s problem, but also everyone’s concern. For over 35 years, the Society has supported those across the province who are living with dementia.
The month of September is set aside by the Alzheimer’s Society to bring awareness to the cruel reality of this disease that can affect the brain and its ability to hold on to lifetime memories. Diagnoses of Dementia and Alzheimer’s are becoming more common now than ever, and more likely to hit closer to home, with our expanding fifty-plus population and an increase in general life expectancies.
We all have a role to play in creating a community of courage and building a dementia-friendly society that is supportive of people who are affected by this disease. In addition to enabling research into the causes and cure for dementia, funds raised at Coffee Break® events will support local programs and services to help people living with dementia and their caregivers live well with the disease.
